French Ambassador to India Emmanuel Lennon on Friday said he expects aerospace giant Dassault Aviation to make available all 36 Rafale jets to India ahead of schedule, despite the disruptions caused by Kovid-19. He was speaking on the sidelines of the fourth edition of the Indo-French Investment Conclave organize by the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI).
At the same time, on the question of trade between India and France. He said that the trade between India and France is not quantitatively high. Because most of the French companies are investing in India instead of exporting to India. During this, he told that firms from European countries have invested more than 10 billion euros in India, giving employment to 2.50 lakh Indians.
26 Rafale found so far
In fact, in 2016, a deal worth Rs 58,000 crore sign between India and France for 36 Rafale fighter jets. The first consignment of these aircraft receives on July 29 last year. However, this aircraft manufacturing factory was also closed during the lockdown due to Kovid in France, due to which there was a possibility of delay in getting the aircraft to India. But, Lennon said that as soon as the factory opened, the workers worked extra hard day and night, and now the work of manufacturing the planes is going on ahead of schedule. France has delivered 26 aircraft to India on time as promised. The rest will also reach India soon.
Business decreased due to Kovid
In 2020, India-France bilateral trade stood at 9.04 billion euros (-21.99 percent) as compared to 2019. At the same time, India’s exports to France declined by 22.9 percent during this period to 4.80 billion euros. According to Indian official data, India’s imports from France also declined by 20.95 percent to 4.23 billion euros.
